Easter With Fluffy

April 15 2022

Easter is just a few days away! While rabbits may be hopping into the spotlight this weekend, our feline friends will still be up to their usual mischief. Fluffy can get into all sorts of trouble around holidays, and Easter is no exception. A local Hendersonville, NC vet offers some advice on spending the spring holiday with a kitty in this article.

Flowers

Many Easter bouquets include lilies, which are highly toxic to cats. Tulips and daffodils are also poisonous to your furry buddy. You can find more information on safe and unsafe plants online at the ASPCA website here. Keep that bouquet out of paws’ reach.

Decorations

Kitties are very playful, which is one reason they are such fun pets. However, Fluffy doesn’t know (or care) what is and isn’t safe. Plastic is one example of this. It’s a major choking risk, but many cats can’t resist the texture. That fake ‘grass’ from Easter baskets is also unsafe, as is anything with a rope or cord.

Seasonal Hazards

Every season brings its own concerns, and spring is no exception. Chemicals are one of the main concerns here. Things like fertilizer, pesticides, and rodenticides are highly toxic to cats! It’s going to start getting hot soon, too. Make sure your furry pal always has fresh water! You’ll also want to make sure that Fluffy is up to date on her vaccinations and parasite control products.

Food

We know that many of you are looking forward to those traditional Easter dinners. You can certainly make Fluffy a plate. Just stick with things you know are safe. Your feline pal can have plain, cooked meat, fish, or chicken, without the skin, bones, or fat; canned tuna, salmon, shrimp, or crabmeat in water; or some shredded deli meat. Don’t give your kitty any chocolate! Other unsafe foods include garlic, onions, scallions, and chives; grapes and raisins; meat on the bone; dairy products; and avocado. Ask your vet for more information.

Photo Session

Easter may not be a kitty holiday, but that doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate with Fluffy. Pick up a seasonal catnip toy for her. Or, snap her picture in front of an Easter basket or some colored eggs. You can never have too many cute pictures of your feline buddy!
