September is a pretty important month for our feline buddies: it’s Happy Cat Month! Fluffy may be small, but she has a very special way of turning houses into homes, and just generally keeping us smiling. Kitties aren’t hard to please, though they do have some purrsonal preferences. A Hendersonville, NC vet lists some easy ways to activate the purr in this article.
Window Seats
Birdwatching is one of Fluffy’s favorite pastimes. Offer your furry little voyeur a comfy window seat, so she can spy on local wildlife.
Background Noise
One great thing about cats is the fact that they are such easy keepers. Fluffy can stay home while you go to work, and you won’t have to rush home to walk her. That said, kitties can get bored and lonely when they are left by themselves. Turn a radio on for your little buddy. If you will be out after dark, leave a light on as well.
Boxes
Fluffy’s box obsession is as adorable as it is purrplexing. Give your kitty boxes to hop into sometimes. Paper bags will also please your feline friend.
Pet-Safe Plants
We always advise people to keep their cats indoors. Fluffy is both safer and healthier as an inside pet! However, you can give your furry friend a taste of nature by setting out some pet-safe plants for her to sniff at and nibble on. The ASPCA has a great list here.
Playtime
Fluffy may look cute and innocent, but she is actually quite a ferocious little hunter, and she is more or less hard-wired to want to, well, attack things. Offer your tiny lion lots of fun toys, and take time to play with her daily.
Beds
Cats spend roughly 99.9 percent of their time sleeping, so it’s probably not much of a surprise to find beds on this list. Store-bought beds are great, but Fluffy is also perfectly happy dozing off on a soft folded throw blanket. (Your drowsy pet may also fall asleep in a basket of clean laundry, but that’s another topic.)
Love
Fluffy will be happiest if she feels loved, safe, and a bit pampered. Pay lots of attention to your kitty. The more you interact with her, the more interactive she’ll become!
